Club History

The St. Bernard Club of the Pacific Coast was founded in 1937 in San Francisco California by Harold Jarvis and Rita Johns Post. There is a gap in available club information until the 1960's which one can assume is partially due to World War II and post war years.

Records show that in the early 60's through the 90's the club was putting on specialty shows in San Francisco Bay Area cities like Walnut Creek, Concord, San Rafael and Vallejo.  In October of 2000 the Saint Bernard Club of the Pacific Coast along with the Sacramento Sierra Saint Bernard Club hosted the Saint Bernard Club of American National in North Lake Tahoe.  In the fall of 2003 SBCPC participated in the Del Valle Dog Club of Livermore All Breed Show and started holding an independent specialty along with the The Saint Bernard Club of Greater San Jose for two days of specialties and an obedience trial.  In April of 2004, SBCPC joined with the Sac Sierra Club to hold three days of specialties and an obedience trial held at the Roseville Fairgrounds.

In 2005 Doug and Penny Mahon introduced the idea of holding a cluster of shows in the spring of 2006.  A meeting was held at Doug and Penny's home with members of the Sac Sierra club and the Greater San Jose Club joining our members and the Northern California St. Bernard Cluster was formed.  The first Cluster was held in April of 2006 at Howard Johnson's Hotel in Davis, California.  The four day Cluster has been held ever since at various hotels in the Sacramento area.  The 2019 Cluster was held at the Lions Gate Hotel in McClellan, California.

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic the NorCal St. Bernard Cliuster and the Del Valle Dog Show were cancelled for 2020.  Starting in May of 2021,  we have been having our NorCal Saint Bernard Cluster show in Lodi, California at Sycamore Lane Kennels.
